Cheap Porter-Cable 0891 2-1/4 HP GripVac Router
There is nothing—-and we do mean nothing—-not to love about this router. Remember the old 690 series? Porter-Cable's taken everything that was good about those machines and brought in all the improvements we all wished they'd make. We were never crazy about having to turn the entire router body to raise and lower it in a table, and voila! The above-the-table adjustment and bit changes are reality. There's a macro adjustment for gross changes, then you fine-tune with the micro knob. Bravo. We were surprised, too, how much quieter this model is than the 690, without sacrificing any power at all. We admit a little skepticism at first about the heralded GripVac handle, but now we must also admit to admiration. It's a smart design that collects dust incredibly efficiently and offers superb control at the same time.
